How to get Your Windows Rated
Step 1:
Before you formally proceed to have the window rated by BFRC it is sensible to ask a BFRC certified Simulator, the list of which appears on this site, to undertake a rating on your behalf. You will then know what the likely result is and you will have the opportunity to make amendments to the product specification to improve the final rating. The advantage of simulation is that you do not physically need to make a window as the performance is concluded from the drawings and a component listing. By substituting components you can undertake a price/cost benefit analysis to decide on the way forward.

Step 2:
If you operate a large company then it is likely that you will require a recognised quality management system (such as ISO 9001 or similar) to be in place. However, smaller companies will only require a statement setting out the manufacturing process in a logical way. Your selected IA (see below) will advise you.
Step 3:
Contact one or more of BFRC’s four approved Independent Agencies (IA’s) to obtain a quotation for their audit work, a list of which appears on this site CLICK HERE.
The IA’s are responsible for auditing the simulation which has been undertaken and your manufacturing systems to ensure that you will be in a position to provide to consumers a product which will have been rated under the BFRC scheme.
Having chosen an IA it will be necessary, if you intend to register your product, to register your intention with BFRC which your chosen IA can do for you. However, it is your responsibility to see that this registration has taken place. At this point you will be given by BFRC various information about the scheme and in particular its fee structure, which from time to time will change. The BFRC fee structure is associated with each product that you register and is charged on an annual basis. Your fees to your IA and Simulator are separate and need to be paid directly to them.
Step 4:
The IA will submit the details of your rating and your independent audit to BFRC for the registration of your product. At this point you will be invoiced by BFRC for the label registration.
Step 5:
BFRC will supply a unique pdf label for the rated product and a Marketing Toolkit, plus the licence will be registered on the BFRC website.
You will need to pay your BFRC fees, prior to the release of the BFRC registration information and licence to make use of the BFRC marks including the Window Energy label.
